It was providential that the Koinonia Evangelization Retreat Team was established in the USA during the Year of The Parish as Communion of Communities: “Forming BECs ( Basic Ecclesial Communities ) as agents of communion, participation and mission” in the Philippines, year 2016-2017. And it was inaugurated before its closure of the year at St. James Parish, Buenavista, Diocese of Butuan, Philippines.

We wonder now a days why only few Catholics respond to the apostolic work of Evangelization which is part of our Catholic life, despite that all of us, by virtue of our Baptism shared not only the kingly, the priestly, but also the prophetic mission of Jesus our Lord, God and Savior. We are all called indeed to evangelize the whole world (Mark 16:15).

May be most of the time, we don’t feel worthy to serve the Lord because of the kind of life we live, living in sin or we feel like knowing only a little of our Catholic faith or we just do not have the skills or time to evangelize. Well, who among us here anyway who is worthy to serve Him? All God wants from us is repentance, be reconciled with Him and believe in the Gospel (Mt. 3:2) and not to worry of what to say for in John 14:26, the Lord says: “The Advocate, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you”.

Good for us Catholics that our Lord Jesus instituted the Sacrament of Penance where He sets us free from sin and be truly free again to love God and our brethren. “But, Father, I commit sin again and again, I am weak, what a shame on me!” one may say. But who among us here who committed sins and was forgiven only once? twice or thrice? or may be more than a hundred times already? God is good, He gives us all the chances to become His saints. Let us just keep on learning and moving forward in allowing God to transform our hearts through His grace in His forgiving and healing sacraments until we become strong and perfect in doing His holy will.

May our involvement in this apostolate for the New Evangelization lead us all to the Father through Jesus our Lord in the Holy Spirit with Mary and St. Joseph and all the Holy Angels and Saints in Heaven.

Let us then continue to pray that God will draw more hearts to be part of our Koinonia Evangelization Retreat Team.

May Jesus grant us all the peace that the world can not give!
